Spinvis - Lutke krub and seven Christmas songs (LP)
2024-11-15
Musician and cartoonist tell a Christmas fairy tale in words and pictures, on book and record
'We celebrate it anyway' has been Spinvis' motto for the holidays for years. This year, the phenomenon will brighten up the Christmas season with a Christmas story and seven classic songs.
'Lutke Krub' is an enchanting story by Spinvis and 17 icons by Hanco Kolk. The Christmas fairy tale will be published in book form by Uitgeverij Thomas Rap and on Excelsior Recordings in various configurations, each time with the story told by Spinvis. These are:
1) A limited box - numbered and signed - containing two LPs with the seven Christmas songs, the narration by Spinvis and the 17 icons in print on 300 gram paper. 2) A double LP in a gatefold sleeve with the music and the spoken word. 3) As a digipack with two compact disks and the icons in the enclosed booklet. 4) Digitally via all relevant platforms.
The story about Lutke Krub goes as follows:
It is December 15th. High up in Groningen, between Baflo and Tinallinge, in the church of the abandoned village of Lutke Krub, sits a man with many names. He realizes that the assignment given to him is almost impossible to carry out. It is December 15th. Oscar van Baarlen sees hidden meaning in the AEX index. For someone who can decipher codes, the stock prices hold no secrets. It is December 15th. In ten days it will be Christmas. Maria is heavily pregnant and rings the doorbell at Joost's house. It is December 15th. Everything still has to be done. The angels hold their breath.
Hanco Kolk and Erik de Jong previously created a gesammtkunstwerk, the book edition of 'tot ziens, Justine Keller'. Hanco says about the renewed collaboration, which was mainly intended to be 'not-another-Christmas-book': 'Erik came up with the idea of the frame story. I thought I had to take all the risks. So: not black and white but color; not digital but analog, not coloring in a copy but the original. All the elements were present for a risky venture. Just like with Justine Keller. And the result makes me just as happy and relieved as it was then.'
Although 'Lutke Krub' features all the classic elements of the Christmas story (including the Three Wise Men from the East, who indulge in the best hash), according to Erik de Jong it is "actually about the solidarity of small communities that are the Real Miracle".
