Album of the week

If you're even a little familiar with the American indie scene, you've had a hard time missing MJ Lenderman in recent years He plays in the alt-country/shoegaze band Wednesday; plays a lead role on the most recent Waxahatchee album Tigers Blood ; and made waves in 2022 with his ragged solo album Boat Songs . Now the 25-year-old guitar virtuoso is ready for the next step. On Manning Fireworks he plays in the Eredivisie.

That Lenderman has guided the rock canon well, may be evident here. He refers to Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and especially The Band; shakes a guitar solo out of his sleeve every now and then that could end up in the next Guitar Hero ('She's Leaving You' first); and does it all with the greatest possible nonchalance. We could call Lenderman the new rock god, if it weren't for the fact that he likes to sing about Lucky Charms and Lightning McQueen far too much for that. He's just a dude who sings about other dudes - the good guys and the bad guys. CD / LP

	Out of boredom, David Gilmour started making music with his family during the first lockdown. He is now, more than four years later, reaping the rewards. Luck and Strange is, if you ask him, his best album since The Dark Side of the Moon . His children play along, his wife wrote almost all the lyrics; and on top of that, a host of virtuosos were involved to make the album sound nothing like Pink Floyd. CD / LP / Blu-ray / 3CD / 3LP
	Since their last album, Belarusian Molchat Doma have traded Minsk for LA. Gone are the cold winters and the brutalist behemoths. It has certainly had an effect on Belaya Polosa , on which the dark wave band sounds less and less like Joy Division and more like the New Order generation. The synths are even more pronounced, the dejected partying lasts even longer. CD / LP
	Four years after part two, there is finally a Vol. III in the illustrious Neil Young Archives : 121 previously unreleased tracks (on the CD version) from the period 1976-1987. Live shows, never released albums like Oceanside Countryside and Johnny's Island . It is dizzyingly many and versatile: small and acoustic, full on the organ with Crazy Horse and quite a few outliers in between. 17CD / 2 LP
	The new age debut album of Caribbean-Belgian jazz musician Nala Sinephro , Space 1.8 , unexpectedly sold like hot cakes. Her second, Endlessness , is even more ambitious. Divided into ten movements, Sinephro skillfully cleanses the soul and is reminiscent of Alice Coltrane's Journey in Satchidananda and Floating Points' Promises . CD / LP
	Of course, there's more that came out this week. American producer Toro y Moi experiments on Hole Erth with rap rock and new age ( CD / LP ); and Max Richter paints on In A Landscape with acoustic and electronic equal ( CD / LP ).
